Review material and composition statements in Chinese marketplace data
Preserve material wording, component scope and unresolved composition claims when preparing marketplace product records.
Material names and fibre percentages answer different questions. A label saying cotton is not, by itself, a complete composition record. Keep what the source states separate from what your team has independently established.

Keep material names attached to the component
Retain the source wording, listing, selected option and observation date. Identify whether the statement concerns the main fabric, lining, coating or another named component. If the source merely says material, do not silently assign it to every component.
A normalized material label can help internal filtering, but retain the original and the reviewer’s interpretation separately. Do not turn a colour, finish or texture word into a chemical composition without an explicit basis. A translation does not independently verify the material.
Check percentages without completing them by guesswork
In an original fictional example, the main fabric is stated as 80% cotton and 20% polyester, while the lining has no composition statement. The two main-fabric percentages total 100%; that arithmetic does not determine the lining or prove a laboratory result.
If declared percentages are incomplete or contradictory, preserve them and flag the issue. Do not proportionally rescale them to 100% or invent the remainder. A missing percentage remains unknown even if a title uses an emphatic material description.
Maintain a path for unresolved claims
Record where a supporting document came from and the product or component it actually addresses before using it to resolve a discrepancy. Keep conflicting statements visible until an appropriate reviewer records a decision and its basis.
