Separate product measurements from packaging data in Chinese marketplace exports
Keep measurement objects, units and verification status clear when reviewing data from eight Chinese marketplaces.
A length or weight is useful only when the team knows what was measured. Keep the product, its selling pack and its shipping carton distinct before using a marketplace export for planning.
This review covers 1688, Alibaba, Taobao, JD, Pinduoduo, Weidian, Goofish and Yiwugo. These are prompts for data questions, not verified measurements or shipping terms.
Name the object behind every value
Record whether a value describes one product, one selling pack or an outer carton. Retain the source wording, unit, listing and selected option. If the source leaves the object unclear, flag it for clarification instead of naming it shipping weight.
The public PandaBuyNow examples include variant dimensions in some records, but no complete carton measurement set. The fictional 1688 bag size is a product attribute. It does not establish its folded package, packed weight or transport volume. Confirm any additional fields through the project sample.
Normalize units while retaining the original
Keep original values alongside any converted values and document the conversion. Do not combine centimetres and millimetres in one numerical column without unit labels. Leave absent dimensions unavailable rather than filling them with zero.
For an original fictional carton measuring 40 × 30 × 20 cm, the geometric volume is 0.024 cubic metres. This arithmetic describes that box. It does not establish the number of products inside, a carrier’s billable weight or a freight price. Repacking can require another measurement.
Separate source statements from measured results
A number displayed on a listing records what that source states. A later warehouse measurement should retain its own date, object and responsible party. If the values differ, preserve both and record the question to resolve.
